Kyrie Irving’s $42M player option looms, but his future with the Mavericks looks secure as both sides embrace a strong, long-term partnership.
DENVER — Kyrie Irving's future with the Dallas Mavericks continues to be a topic of interest, with a pivotal decision looming on his $42 million player option for the 2025-26 NBA season. Entering Friday’s matchup against the Denver Nuggets, he’s averaged 24.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 4.4 rebounds while shooting an impressive 54.5% overall, 53.8% from beyond the arc, and 85.7% from the free throw line.
If Irving declines the option, he could enter free agency in 2025. However, ESPN’s Tim MacMahon believes it is highly likely that Irving will remain with the Mavericks for the foreseeable future, regardless of the contractual specifics.
