Mark Cuban Expects Mavericks Fans Will 'Love' Team-Produced Games, Streaming Coming?
Mark Cuban shares his thoughts on the Dallas Mavericks' new local broadcast rights agreement with TEGNA, along with some additional insights.
DALLAS — On Friday, the Dallas Mavericks announced a new multi-year broadcast rights agreement with TEGNA to broadcast 70 or more regular season games free over-the-air. This will put games on KMPX (Ch. 29) along with 15 of them being broadcasted on WFAA (Ch. 8.), including a five excelusive nationally televised games.
Mavericks minority owner Mark Cuban has long strived for a better broadcasting home for the team after many NBA fans and teams grew frustrated with Bally Sports. He’s confident fans will appreciate the new deal and mentioned the organization will be producing the games, along with future plans for streaming.
“I think it’s awesome. Fans will love it,” Cuban told Dallas Hoops Journal. “We will be producing the games ourselves. And will have more on streaming soon.”
Other NBA teams have begun launching their own streaming services to watch games. After previously being distributed by AT&T SportsNet, the Utah Jazz launched Jazz+, a subscription-based direct-to-consumer option for fans. The cost was $15.50 per month for live games and on-demand content, including availability on Android, Apple, Roku, and Samsung.
The Mavericks’ fellow American Airlines Center tenants, the Dallas Stars, announced the launch of Victory+, a similar streaming option for fans within the Stars’ television territoy to watch all regional home and away games.
Cuban long communicated the Mavericks’ plan to get creative with broadcasting if Bally Sports was no longer televising games. In 2021, he partnered with DirecTV Stream. The details included for the first 10,000 new DirecTV Stream subscribers to receive a $50 per month credit for each month of service up to five months.
Last season, the Mavericks broadcasted 10 games on WFAA, with strong reviews in the partnership. The latest deal will expand on the partnership between both sides.
It has yet to be announced who will be on the broadcast team but details will be announced at a later date closer to the regular season opener against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 24. Stay tuned for details about production plans and streaming.
