Mark Your Calendars: Mavs Media Day, Vegas Training Camp, and Preseason is Almost Here
Get ready for the Mavs 2024-25 season with key dates: Media Day, Vegas training camp, and exciting preseason matchups. Don’t miss out!
DALLAS — We’re almost there! The Dallas Mavericks now have just a week before Media Day. Coming off a run to the NBA Finals and adding Klay Thompson on the perimeter next to Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving, there’s a lot of excitement and high expectations for this group in 2024-25.
Here are the important dates Mavericks fans should know about for the upcoming season:
Sept. 30: Media Day
The Mavericks will hold their annual media day on Sept. 30 in Dallas. Speakers will include general manager and president of basketball operations Nico Harrison, head coach Jason Kidd, and the players.
I’ll upload each availability on my YouTube channel, but be sure to subscribe to Dallas Hoops Journal for a detailed writeup on my takeaways from Media Day.
Oct. 1-4: Training Camp in Las Vegas
Following media day, the Mavericks will travel to Las Vegas for training camp, held on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). Camp will run from Oct. 1-4 and allow the team to focus on building chemistry and preparing for the grind of the regular season. The team will return to Dallas on Oct. 5 to continue its preparations.
Just like on Media Day, I will provide detailed observations from each practice day and have some clips from the open portion.
Oct. 7: Preseason Opener vs. Memphis Grizzlies
The Mavericks will play their first preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies at 7 p.m. Central on Oct. 7 at American Airlines Center.
Other Preseason Games
Oct. 10 vs. Utah Jazz: Dallas will host the Jazz at 7 p.m. at American Airlines Center for their second preseason game.
Oct. 14 at L.A. Clippers: The Mavericks will play their only road preseason game at the Clippers' new arena, the Intuit Dome, at 9:30 p.m.
Oct. 17 vs. Milwaukee Bucks: The preseason will conclude with a home game against the Milwaukee Bucks at 7:30 p.m. at American Airlines Center. The matchup will serve as a final tune-up before the regular season begins.
Oct. 21: Final Roster Cuts
The NBA preseason officially concludes on Oct. 18, giving teams a few days to finalize their rosters before the Oct. 21 cut-down deadline. By then, teams must reduce their rosters from 20 players to 15.
Where to Find My Coverage
I’m close to finalizing some additional coverage opportunities for the Mavs and the NBA, but I’ll remain very active on Dallas Hoops Journal regardless. If these opportunities come to fruition, I’ll provide an update, but either way, I plan to cover all 82 regular season games, just as I did last season. Your support makes this possible since I’m doing this independently. Providing insightful basketball coverage is my passion, and the support for my work makes it even more enjoyable to do daily. I’ve set premium subscriptions at $10 per month or $100 annually (saving you $20). Signing up helps me a lot, so I truly appreciate everyone who has already done so. Click here to access the signup page. Once training camp begins, I’ll be rolling out more premium members-only chats and content.
I’ll have plenty of content on my YouTube channel throughout this season as well. I recommend subscribing there if you enjoy watching media availabilities or on-court footage from practice and shootaround. Since I do not have a podcast anymore, I will be doing more daily videos talking on camera providing news and analysis.
