Mavericks' Jazian Gortman Generating Buzz with Standout Preseason Play: 'I Always Want to Get Better'
Jazian Gortman continues to impress with defensive tenacity and offensive versatility, making a case for an NBA roster spot: "I always want to get better."
DALLAS — Jazian Gortman has been a standout for the Dallas Mavericks during the preseason, showcasing his tenacity on defense and versatility on offense as he battles for an NBA contract.
In the Mavericks’ 110-96 loss against the LA Clippers, Gortman continued his impressive play, scoring 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. His defensive effort was equally notable, as he frequently applied pressure on James Harden and disrupted the Clippers' offensive flow. Throughout the preseason, Gortman has averaged 12.7 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 steals, while shooting 50% from the field and 53.8% from three-point range.
“Jazian’s defensive effort was great tonight,” Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd said after Monday’s game. “He made it hard for their ball-handlers, picking them up full court and really setting the tone with his energy. That’s what we need from him—being a pest on defense and making things difficult.”
