Irving led the way during a decisive stretch in the fourth quarter, with the Jazz closing the gap to 87-82. He responded with a three-pointer and an assist to Quentin Grimes to restore a double-digit lead.

“When it got close, I knew it was time to lock in,” Irving said. “We’ve learned from earlier games this season where we didn’t finish strong. Tonight, it was all about staying poised.”

Head coach Jason Kidd praised Irving’s composure and leadership. “He’s been incredible—calm under pressure and making all the right reads,” Kidd said. “That’s the Kyrie effect.”

Washington Extends Double-Double Streak

P.J. Washington notched his fifth consecutive double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, underscoring his growing role on both ends of the floor. He attributed the team’s success to a selfless style of play.

“Everybody stepped up,” Washington said. “We’re playing unselfish basketball, and it’s showing in these wins.”

Washington also lauded Irving’s impact on the locker room. “He’s vocal every time someone makes a mistake. He tells us we’re better than that and to keep our heads up,” Washington said. “When a guy like him trusts you, it’s easy to play with confidence.”

Grimes Starts Hot

Quentin Grimes set the tone early, hitting four three-pointers in the first quarter en route to 24 points. Grimes credited his teammates for finding him in rhythm and helping him build confidence.

“I was just in the groove,” Grimes said. “My teammates were looking for me, giving me the green light to let it fly. It’s a big confidence boost for sure.”

Grimes, who joined Dallas in the offseason, said he is becoming more comfortable with his role. “I’m glad to see my confidence growing,” Grimes said. “I’m just playing downhill, not overthinking, and focusing on helping on both ends of the floor.”

Kidd Reflects on Growth

Kidd highlighted the team’s improvement in late-game situations after a rocky start to the season. “We knew we owed them one,” Kidd said, referring to a prior loss to Utah in the same building. “Tonight, we came in with the right mindset, and everybody stepped up.”

Dallas is now 5-1 in games without Luka Dončić, who is nearing a return from injury. Irving said the Mavericks are prepared to keep their momentum going when Dončić re-enters the lineup.

“He’s one of the best in this league for a reason,” Irving said. “When he’s back, it just makes everything easier for all of us.”

The Mavericks will face the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday night to complete their back-to-back.
