NBA insider Marc Stein provided a trade update on Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis.

According to Stein, the Toronto Raptors have registered trade interest in Davis, the Atlanta Hawks have had exploratory talks and the Detroit Pistons’ interest is overstated.

Davis is making $54.1 million this season. He’ll make $58.5 million next season and has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

A future Hall of Famer, Davis has appeared in only 20 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.

The Mavericks will work with Davis’ camp as they decide whether to pursue an in-season trade, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Davis’ agent.

A Kentucky product, Davis has played in just 11 games this season because of a left calf injury. He’s averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.

The teams interested in trading for Davis hope he loses weight, sources said. Teams think Davis needs to lose weight so he can be the mobile threat he usually is.

Here is what DallasHoopsJournal senior reporter Grant Afseth reported about Davis back on December 12:

“Detroit has it rolling right now. Duren has taken that next step, and they’re going to have to pay him soon. I doubt they’re going to want to risk messing this up,” one source said. “I don’t see it right now.”

“Atlanta already has to resolve Trae’s future. Adding a star like [Davis] — who doesn’t fit their timeline —right before he needs a contract extension is tough to see happening,” one source said. “Jalen Johnson is playing at an All-NBA level. They have a lot of good young players. They can be patient. They even have great odds to end up with a top-three pick to add another key guy.”

“Toronto needs another piece to make a serious push. They need to upgrade from Poeltl,” one source said. “This is the cleanest basketball fit for AD of the three. He could be a go-to guy and anchor their defense.”

A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
