The Dallas Wings return to College Park Center on Wednesday night looking to bounce back from a difficult road stretch and head into the All-Star break with momentum. Dallas will host the Las Vegas Aces, a perennial title contender led by A’ja Wilson and Jackie Young.

The Wings (6–16) have won four straight at home but dropped three in a row on the road, including a 102–83 loss to the Indiana Fever on Sunday. Despite the setback, Paige Bueckers continued her standout rookie season with 21 points, while center Li Yueru added 16 on 8-of-11 shooting.

Hines-Allen on Facing the Aces: “We’re Focused on Ourselves”

The Aces have dominated the head-to-head series in recent years, winning 20 of the last 23 meetings with Dallas, including a comeback win on June 13. But forward Myisha Hines-Allen says the Wings are focused inward as they prepare for a final test before the break.

“That’s a championship-caliber team,” Hines-Allen told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “They’ve won championships before. They have their core group back. So I think we’re more focused on ourselves—getting back on that win streak at home and going into the All-Star break with a win.”

In the June matchup, Dallas led by 11 in the fourth quarter before Las Vegas closed the game on a 17–2 run to win 88–84. Arike Ogunbowale scored 26 points, and Bueckers added 16 in the loss.

DiJonai Carrington Ruled Out with Rib Injury

After fully practicing on Tuesday and participating partially in shootaround, DiJonai Carrington has officially been ruled out for Wednesday’s matchup as she continues to recover from a rib injury sustained on June 20.

Carrington has missed nine consecutive games and remains one of the Wings’ most impactful two-way players. She has averaged 11.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 steals this season. Head coach Chris Koclanes previously praised her conditioning and physicality in practice, but the team will continue to take a cautious approach as the break nears.

Grace Berger Added to Roster Amid Injuries

The Wings signed former Indiana Fever guard Grace Berger to a seven-day hardship contract as they continue to navigate a stretch without Ty Harris (left knee) and Maddy Siegrist (right knee). Berger, who was drafted No. 7 overall in 2023, joins a backcourt that includes three rookies leading the league in production this month.

“There are a lot of young players mixed with some good vets that I’ve been watching and playing against for a couple of years,” Berger told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “I’m excited to be on their team and learn from them—people like Arike, obviously, there’s a lot to learn from her.”

Rookie Trio Setting the Pace

The Wings’ rookie trio of Paige Bueckers, JJ Quinerly and Aziaha James continues to shine. Bueckers leads all WNBA rookies with 18.3 points and 5.4 assists per game and has scored in double figures in every outing. Quinerly is averaging 15.8 points since moving into the starting lineup and has posted five consecutive double-figure performances. James has averaged 14.4 points over her last nine games, including a 28-point effort against Phoenix on July 3.

Aces Regain Momentum Behind Wilson’s Dominance

The Aces (10–11) arrive in Arlington following a 34-point, 16-rebound performance from A’ja Wilson in a win over Washington. Wilson leads the league in blocks (2.4), ranks second in scoring (21.5) and rebounding (9.1), and remains one of the most efficient players in the WNBA.

Jackie Young is coming off a 30-point game on 64.3% shooting, while Jewell Loyd, Chelsea Gray, and Dana Evans round out a lineup that’s beginning to round into form. Las Vegas defeated Dallas in June despite missing Wilson and Megan Gustafson, aided by a 26-of-28 night at the free throw line.

What’s at Stake

Wednesday marks the final game before the All-Star break for both teams. The Wings will return to action on Monday, July 22, against the Seattle Storm, and the Aces will resume play on Tuesday, July 23, at home against the Atlanta Dream.

Dallas’s focus is on defending home court and carrying momentum into the second half of the season.

“Try to get a win—just feel more confident going into the All-Star break,” Hines-Allen said. “Seeing shots fall again definitely helps. When we won last time, we were locked in defensively and followed the game planfrom start to finish.”
