Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark Meet Again — Now as Pros
After years of parallel paths through youth basketball and NCAA stardom, Paige Bueckers and Caitlin Clark will now share the floor in the WNBA for the first time. Both guards are among the league’s top 10 in scoring — Bueckers is averaging 18.1 points and 5.4 assists, while Clark enters Sunday at 16.9 points and 8.6 assists per game.
Their collegiate duels helped define a new generation of women’s basketball fandom. Now, they’ll headline a regular-season game expected to draw a massive audience — just as they did in the June 27 matchup, when 20,409 fans packed American Airlines Center and over 1.14 million viewers tuned in nationally.
Clark missed that game due to a groin injury, but led the Fever with 20 points and nine assists in Indiana’s 94–86 win over the Wings back on June 27.
Arike Ogunbowale Returns, DiJonai Carrington Still Day-to-Day
The Wings will benefit from the return of Arike Ogunbowale, who will rejoin the lineup after missing three games due to a left thumb injury. She is averaging 16.8 points and 3.9 assists this season and practiced in full on Friday.
“I felt really good to get back with the team,” Ogunbowale said. “Feel their energy, give them my energy. I know I’ve been out, so just trying to make my presence felt.”
DiJonai Carrington, who has missed six straight games with a rib injury, remains day-to-day. Head coach Chris Koclanes said her return could happen “any day,” but she remains questionable for Sunday’s game.
Defensive Mindset Critical in Road Finale Before Break
Dallas enters the final game before the All-Star break at 6–15 overall and just 2–9 on the road. After back-to-back losses to Phoenix and Chicago, the Wings are focusing on defense and chemistry to reset their season’s momentum.
“There’s a narrative that we can’t play on the road,” Koclanes said. “We want to flip that script. Players are having career highs [against us]. We want to show up in Indiana with intensity and toughness.”
Paige Bueckers echoed that sentiment after a tough shooting night in Chicago.
“Not every night we’re going to make shots, but how can we win when we’re not making shots? That’s where defense has to travel,” Bueckers said. “We’ve let too many guards get off on us.”
Indiana Finding Offensive Rhythm with Clark Back
The Fever (10–10) snapped a short losing skid Friday with a 99–82 win over the Atlanta Dream. Kelsey Mitchell poured in 25 points while Clark added nine assists despite a 5-of-17 shooting night. It marked the second game since Clark’s return from injury, and Indiana continues to find its rhythm with a fully available roster for the first time all season.
“We’ve been talking all year about building consistency,” said head coach Stephanie White. “(Friday was) game two with our whole roster. And we still haven’t had a practice with everybody.”
Stakes Ahead of the All-Star Break
With the break looming, Sunday presents a pivotal opportunity for Dallas to stop its road skid and build confidence heading into the second half of the season. The Wings are looking to turn a corner between Ogunbowale’s return, Bueckers’ growth as a lead guard, and the team’s improving health.
“I just want us to respond on the road,” Koclanes said. “And then come home and build on our momentum at CPC. These are two important games.”
