DALLAS — With the 2024-25 NBA regular season approaching, the Dallas Mavericks worked out a contract extension with Jaden Hardy but couldn’t get a deal done with Quentin Grimes before Monday’s deadline.
Hardy, 22, landed a three-year, $18 million rookie-scale extension with a final-year team option. He’s been developing as a key piece off the bench and looking to make the most of the opportunity that could open up for him this season. League personnel surveyed by Dallas Hoops Journal have praised the value of this deal.
Grimes, whom the Mavericks acquired in an offseason trade with the Detroit Pistons, will enter restricted free agency after the season. While both sides are optimistic about the relationship, they have this season to play out the situation and gauge where they’re at next summer. The 24-year-old wing will surely seek to find a home after beginning the season on his third team since the start of last season.
