NBA legend LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers will wear a special-edition 23rd season jersey patch beginning tonight (1/12) against the Sacramento Kings.

James made his NBA debut against the Kings in 2003.

The patches will be removed from James’ jersey after each game and some will be placed into ultra-rare trading cards.

LeBron James could retire from the NBA after this season. He becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason and turned 41 in December.

The future Hall of Famer is the oldest active player in the league.

Arguably the greatest player in NBA history, James has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), Miami Heat and Lakers. He’s a four-time MVP, four-time champion and four-time Finals MVP.

James, who grew up idolizing Chicago Bulls icon Michael Jordan, is the only player to rank top five all-time in points and assists, the only player to win three Finals MVPs with three teams, the only player with 40,000 points, 10,000 rebounds and 10,000 career assists and the only player to score 50,000 points combining the regular season and playoffs.

James joined the Lakers in 2018. He led the franchise to the 2020 championship against the Heat at the Walt Disney World bubble. Los Angeles also made the Western Conference Finals in 2023.

The leading scorer in NBA history, James holds career averages of 26.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game with the Cavaliers, Heat and Lakers. The Akron native has not announced whether he will retire after this season.

The Lakers are 23-13. They are in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.

For the time in his career, James is not the most important player on his team, as Los Angeles acquired five-time All-Star Luka DončiΔ‡ from the Dallas Mavericks last season. DončiΔ‡, 26, and James have a close relationship, so there is no beef between the two superstars.
