Some members of the Dallas Mavericks are in favor of trading Anthony Davis for expiring contracts, according to NBA reporter Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

That idea, though, would be hard to sell to Mavericks governor Patrick Dumont, who feels no pressure to trade Davis this season.

“There are some within the organization who would be in favor of trading Anthony Davis even if the return is only expiring contracts, simply because they value the flexibility it would give the franchise as it builds around Flagg,” MacMahon wrote. “That idea would be hard to sell to Dumont, who feels no pressure to trade Davis now, sources told ESPN.”

Davis is out with ligament damage in his left hand. He’s not expected to play until late February at the earliest. The 2026 NBA trade deadline is February 5 at 3 p.m. ET.

A Chicago native, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks per game this season. He’s appeared in just 20 games.

There are several members of the Mavericks, Dumont included, interested in seeing Davis play alongside Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Remember, though: Dallas is better served to lose games because the 2026 NBA Draft is the final draft in which the franchise controls its first-round pick until 2031.

A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played in only 29 games with the Mavericks since the stunning Luka Dončić trade with the Los Angeles Lakers last season. Dallas is currently in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.

Davis is making $54.1 million this season. He’s eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in August.

Before he hurt his left hand, Davis drew trade interest from the Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors, sources said. The future Hall of Famer doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
