Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. is “a lock” to be traded at the 2026 NBA trade deadline, according to John Hollinger of The Athletic.
A league source told DallasHoopsJournal that the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks are “very” interested in trading for Porter Jr.
“With one trusted league source telling me that Michael Porter Jr. is a lock to move by the deadline so the Nets can sell high on his career year,” Hollinger wrote.
The Nets acquired Porter Jr. from the Denver Nuggets in the offseason. MPJ is averaging 25.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game for Brooklyn this season while shooting 49.0% from the field, 39.7% from beyond the arc and 83.3% from the free-throw line.
Porter Jr. is making $38.3 million this season. He will make $40.8 million next season in the final year of his contract.
The Nets are only 11-24. They are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference standings. Porter Jr., one of the most gifted shooters and scorers in the NBA, is better suited to play for a contender at this stage of his career.
The 27-year-old Porter Jr. doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. He helped the Nuggets win the 2023 championship against the Miami Heat and holds career averages of 17.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game with the Nuggets and Nets.
It will be fascinating to see where Porter Jr. is playing after the trade deadline. Along with the Warriors and Bucks, the swingman has been linked to the Detroit Pistons, but the Pistons are under no pressure to make a trade since they have the best record in the Eastern Conference.
