A blockbuster NBA trade idea sending Kyrie Irving from the Dallas Mavericks to the Miami Heat has been created.
NBA writer Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Mavericks and Heat:
Miami Heat get: Kyrie Irving
Dallas Mavericks get: Tyler Herro, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and a 2031 first-round pick swap
This NBA trade idea can’t happen now since the 2026 trade deadline has passed.
However, it can go down this offseason.
Irving will miss all of this season recovering from the torn left ACL he suffered last season against the Sacramento Kings. The Duke product, who turns 34 this month, is better suited to play for another team at this stage of his career since the Mavericks are rebuilding around Cooper Flagg.
This NBA trade idea pairs Irving with fellow All-Stars Bam Adebayo and Andrew Wiggins. The Heat also have Norman Powell, who made his first All-Star team this season, but he becomes an unrestricted free agent this offseason, so it’s unknown if he will be back with Miami.
The Heat were interested in acquiring Irving from the Brooklyn Nets during the 2022-23 season, but the Mavericks swooped in first.
Dallas signed Irving to a three-year, $118 million contract last July. Irving will make $39.5 million next season. He can become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason of 2027 by declining his 2027-28 player option worth $42.4 million.
The Mavericks traded Anthony Davis to the Washington Wizards this season but chose to keep Irving, who averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game last season in 50 appearances. Dallas didn’t want to trade Irving because the franchise believes Flagg needs to play with an elite point guard to develop the right way, sources told DallasHoopsJournal.
However, Flagg has shown this season that he doesn’t necessarily need Irving to develop properly. The swingman is averaging 20.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game.
It will be fascinating to see if Irving gets traded this offseason or remains on the Mavericks. Irving doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract. The nine-time All-Star holds career averages of 23.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics, Nets and Mavericks.
