For the first time in her WNBA career, Paige Bueckers walked off the floor without double-digit points.

Bueckers finished with nine points and nine assists in the Dallas Wings’ 90-81 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Sunday, bringing an end to her run of 30 straight double-digit scoring performances to open her career.

The streak stands as the longest ever by a guard to begin a WNBA career, and it places Bueckers just behind Candace Parker (32 games in 2008) and A’ja Wilson (33 games in 2018) for the most consecutive double-digit outings by a rookie in league history.

A Rookie Season Defined by Consistency

What set the streak apart wasn’t just its length but the consistency with which Bueckers produced under heavy defensive attention. After Sunday’s game, the No. 1 overall pick was averaging 19.0 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.9 rebounds in 31 games.

In August alone, she’s elevated her play with 20.8 points, 4.4 assists, and 4.0 rebounds across nine games, including a 44-point performance against the Los Angeles Sparks. Opponents have routinely tilted entire defensive schemes toward slowing her down, yet she has continued to dictate the Wings’ offense while handling the bulk of playmaking duties.

“Paige demands a lot of attention,” teammate Myisha Hines-Allen said. “We’ve all seen the clip of Nneka [Ogwumike] saying the game plan was to send five at her. It’s on everyone else to step up and be confident.”

Golden State Valkyries’ Threes Prove Too Much

The Wings briefly led at halftime after a 24–9 second-quarter run sparked by Hines-Allen and Amy Okonkwo, but Golden State surged back behind former Wing Veronica Burton, who finished with 25 points and 13 assists. The Valkyries hit 16-of-40 threes, including six in the fourth quarter, to pull away.

“Anytime we had slippage or were just a half-second late, they exploited us,” head coach Chris Koclanes said. “Credit to them for executing better than us on that side of the ball. And then the other piece was the second chances. When we did get some first-shot misses, they were able to get a ton of offensive rebounds and had almost 20 second-chance points.”

Five Dallas players scored in double figures — Maddy Siegrist (16 points), Haley Jones (15), Hines-Allen (15), Okonkwo (12), and Grace Berger (11) — but Bueckers’ streak was the main story.

Placing Paige Bueckers Among Legends

Bueckers’ 30-game streak represents more than a statistical milestone. It underscores her place in a rare company of rookies whose scoring translated immediately to the professional level.

Wilson’s 33-game streak ended with her winning Rookie of the Year. Parker’s 32-game run preceded an MVP season as a rookie. While the Wings’ struggles have put them far from contention, Bueckers’ steadiness has given Dallas a clear foundation to build upon.

Koclanes pointed to the rookie’s ability to stay aggressive despite Golden State sending multiple defenders at her.

“It was extremely physical,” Koclanes emphasized. “She was attacking the rim and playing in the paint downhill, and for her to only go to the free-throw line two times — something’s off there. For her to play that hard with all the fouls in the game and all that physicality, I don’t agree with that.

“But credit to Paige for continuing to stick with it. She just has a next-play mentality and doesn’t let that linger,” he explained. “She can get to the next play quickly. She had nine assists, made the right plays, and kept attacking. But other people around her have to step up and make some shots too.”

Although her streak is over, the numbers still reflect a debut season that was already among the most consistent by any guard in league history.
