Azzi Fudd Should Rematch Stephen Curry At 2027 WNBA All-Star, And Players Want That Game In Golden State

CHICAGO — Azzi Fudd left one thing open when she addressed Stephen Curry from the podium Friday night.

“Steph, if you’re listening, I’ve been asking for a rematch since high school, so maybe it’s time to figure out a time and place,” Fudd said.

A day later, at United Center, Nneka Ogwumike was asked where the 2027 All-Star Game will be played. She said she does not know. She said she does know where the players want it.

What Azzi Fudd Asked For

Fudd took the podium at Wintrust Arena with the 3-Point Contest trophy after scoring 30 points in the championship round. The Dallas Wings rookie became the first first-year player to win the event. Through 26 games before the break, she shot 38.7% from 3-point range on 53 makes.

She was 15 the first time. Fudd and Cameron Brink were the first two girls invited to Curry’s SC30 Select Camp in 2018. Anthony Edwards was on that roster. So were Jalen Green, Jalen Suggs, and James Wiseman. Fudd tied for the top score in qualifying. She won the camp’s 3-point final, which got her the shootout against Curry. Fudd scored 16. Curry beat her by four.

“I was really nervous, but also excited because it was so much fun to be at that camp and to be one of the first two girls there,” Fudd said. “Shooting against the boys, it’s always a little extra something when you get to beat the boys.”

Curry signed Fudd to SC30 Inc. in 2021, making her the first college athlete to partner with an NBA player’s personal brand. She returned to the camp in 2022 on the coaching staff. The two recently taped an episode of the “Fudd Around and Find Out” podcast together.

The Opening Nneka Ogwumike Described

Ogwumike took a question about the All-Star host-city process at her postgame press conference Saturday night at United Center.

“That’s a great question. I’m with you — I don’t really know what the process is,” Ogwumike said. “We usually find out at the same time you all do, so maybe that’s something that could change.”

She continued a moment later.

“From what I’ve heard from players, a lot of them would love to see an All-Star Game in Golden State. I think that would be a great location. With all of these expansion teams entering the league, it gives new cities an opportunity to host the event as well.”

The Golden State Valkyries entered the league in 2025 and led the WNBA in average attendance that season at 18,064 per game. Sportico reported in May that the franchise carried a $850 million valuation, the highest of any WNBA team. The Valkyries play at Chase Center, which opened in 2019 as the home of the Golden State Warriors.

Bidding has been thin. Front Office Sports reported in November that the Chicago Sky were the only franchise to bid on the 2026 game, which the league awarded to Chicago in June 2025 and moved from Wintrust Arena to United Center.

Ogwumike raised the bidding process without being asked about it.

“As these franchises continue to grow and their valuations increase, maybe the bidding process for hosting All-Star Weekend can become more competitive,” she said.

Ogwumike is in her fourth term as president of the Women’s National Basketball Players Association. She made her 11th All-Star appearance Saturday and passed Maya Moore for the most points in WNBA All-Star Game history.

One Idea, And It Is Only An Idea

To be clear about what this is: nobody has proposed it. No league official has raised it. Neither player has said anything about Chase Center, and Fudd’s request Friday night came with no venue, no date, and nobody organizing it. This is my suggestion, not a report.

The leagues have run a version of it before. Sabrina Ionescu faced Curry in a shooting exhibition at NBA All-Star Weekend in 2024, and Curry won by three points in a segment that drew some of that weekend’s strongest ratings. Ionescu has referenced that loss since, including after reclaiming her WNBA title last year.

Indianapolis hosted that one during the NBA’s weekend, with Ionescu as the visitor. Chase Center flips who is visiting. It is Curry’s home floor, but the weekend would be the WNBA’s, and Fudd would be coming off a 3-Point Contest title two days earlier.

Curry turned 38 in March and is entering his 18th season with the Warriors. Fudd will be 24 next July.

Ogwumike, for her part, left the door open on the host-city question.

“If you find out before I do, let me know,” she said.

The WNBA has not announced a host city, venue, or dates for the 2027 All-Star Game.
