“I Might Have to Move in a Different Direction:” Angel Reese Could Leave Chicago Sky if Team Doesn’t Improve

The Chicago Sky will miss the WNBA playoffs again this year and Angel Reese isn’t happy about it.
During an interview with Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune, Reese said the Sky can’t be putrid again next season.
“I’m not settling for the same s−−− we did this year,” Reese said. “We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.
“I’m willing and wanting to play with the best. And however I can help to get the best here, that’s what I’m going to do this offseason. So it’s going to be very, very important this offseason to make sure we attract the best of the best because we can’t settle for what we have this year.”
If the Sky don’t improve as a team, Reese could leave Chicago.
“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” Reese said. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me. But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”
Reese was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She has career averages of 14.0 points, 12.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 0.6 blocks with the Sky.
Reese has appeared in 29 games for Chicago this season. The two-time All-Star is averaging 14.6 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks while shooting 46.3% from the field, 20.0% from 3 and 75.0% from the free-throw line.
The 23-year-old Reese is five games away from finishing the second season of her rookie contract, a three-year agreement with a team option that all but guarantees to keep her in Chicago through 2027 unless she requests a trade.
“We need great players, and I don’t know what will attract that,” Reese said. “Maybe the practice facility will attract that, we’ll see.
“But the priority is being able to convince (free agents) that this is an organization that is going in the right direction. Honestly, it would be a leap of faith for a great, great player to come here and show that this is something that they want to be a part of and we can bring that championship mentality.”
