‘You Guys Make It Sound Like We’re Going To War’: Anthony Davis Breaks Silence On Being In NBA Trade Rumors

As Anthony Davis nears his return to the Dallas Mavericks’ lineup, the All-Star big man is also confronting a familiar subplot that resurfaced during his month-long absence: trade speculation. On Wednesday, Davis made clear that the chatter hasn’t rattled him — and won’t factor into how he approaches the season.

“I have no control over that,” Davis said after practice. “You guys make it sound like we’re going to war or something. This is basketball — it comes with it. Everybody in their career has been in trade talks or involved in some type of move. That doesn’t affect me. I’ve been in trade talks for a while.”

Anthony Davis Says He’s Focused on Playing, Not the Noise

Davis, acquired this offseason in one of the league’s biggest headline-grabbing trades, has not played since suffering a left calf strain on Oct. 29. His absence, combined with the Mavericks’ 5–14 start, has predictably fueled external speculation about Dallas’ long-term direction.

Davis dismissed any suggestion that he’s paying attention to that discussion.

“My job is to play basketball and try to lead this team,” he said. “Whatever comes out of that, comes out of that. I don’t really have control over it, but I do have open communication with the front office. I’m just ready to get back on the floor.”

His comments reflect a measured approach consistent with how established veterans handle trade windows. Davis said the rumors don’t add pressure and won’t change how he prepares.

“Everybody in their career has been in trade talks,” Davis said. “That doesn’t affect me.”

Communication With Leadership Eases Tension

The Mavericks fired general manager Nico Harrison this week, a move Davis called surprising. Harrison was instrumental in acquiring Davis and shaping the team’s off-season vision. Davis said he spoke with both Harrison and team governor Patrick Dumont shortly after the decision.

“Me and Nico talked. Me and Patrick talked,” Davis said. “That’s just the business of basketball. Once I had those conversations, I was able to move forward, focus on my rehab, and get back to trying to compete and win games — and ultimately win a championship.”

Those conversations, Davis said, gave him clarity and stability as he continued rehabbing the calf injury.

Anthony Davis Said Trade Rumors Are Part of the Job

For Davis, public speculation isn’t new. His previous stints in New Orleans and Los Angeles played out under heavy media scrutiny, and he said that experience allows him to tune out the noise and remain focused on performance.

“You guys make it sound like we’re going to war or something,” Davis said. “This is basketball — it comes with it.”

He added that the repetition of hearing his name in trade discussions over the years makes it easier to navigate now.

“I’ve been in trade talks for a while,” Davis said. “That doesn’t affect me.”

Anthony Davis Ready to Shift the Conversation Back to Basketball

Davis participated in full practice Wednesday for the first time in nearly a month and is officially questionable for Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers. He said he hopes to return this weekend, though the timing will be finalized with the Mavericks’ medical staff.

As his comeback nears, Davis said he wants the narrative around the team to shift from speculation to execution.

“Right now, it’s about getting back on the floor, winning games, and trying to turn this thing around,” Davis said.

And for a Mavericks team dealing with instability, injuries, and a difficult start to the season, Davis returning to the floor — not trade noise — is the storyline they need most.
