Anthony Davis’ Preference Is To Remain With Dallas Mavericks, Get Extension In Offseason

Anthony Davis‘ preference is to remain with the Dallas Mavericks and get an extension in the offseason, according to NBA insider Tim MacMahon of ESPN.
Davis is eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension in August.
Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal reported on December 27 that Davis will seek a contract extension from the Mavericks in the offseason if he doesn’t get traded this season or pursue an extension with the team he gets traded to if he’s moved.
Davis is making $54.1 million this season. He’s averaging 20.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 52.2% from the field, 29.4% from beyond the arc and 72.6% from the foul line in 18 starts.
A future Hall of Famer, Davis has been linked to the Atlanta Hawks, Toronto Raptors, Detroit Pistons, Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers in trade rumors.
The Mavericks are exploring the trade markets for Davis, Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson and D’Angelo Russell, sources told Afseth. All four players have been in trade rumors ever since Nico Harrison was fired as general manager.
While Dallas is listening to trade offers for Davis, the front office will not trade the Kentucky product unless they get a “strong” return, sources told Afseth. The Mavericks are believed to be willing to discuss trades for anyone on the roster not named Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving.
As of this writing, the Mavericks (13-23) are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings. They are not a playoff contender, so it makes no sense for the franchise to keep Davis, who is better suited to play for a winning team at his stage of his career.
A 10-time All-Star, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He holds career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. The 2020 NBA champion turns 33 in March.
