NBA Head Coach Reveals If LeBron James ‘Can Help A Team Win’ Anymore

Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James is the oldest active player in the NBA. The 41-year-old is in his 23rd campaign and is no longer an MVP-type player.
However, one NBA head coach believes James can still “help a team win.”
“LeBron is still averaging 20 points and shooting 50%. He can help a team win,” one NBA head coach told ESPN. “You just have to find the right situation.”
James is averaging 20.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game this season for the Lakers. The future Hall of Famer is shooting 49.6% from the field, 31.5% from beyond the arc and 65.4% from the free-throw line. These are solid numbers, especially for a player who is 41 years old.
However, James has a plus/minus of -55 this season and the Lakers’ offensive rating increases by 1.6 points when the leading scorer in NBA history goes to the bench.
James becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season for the first time since 2018. It’s unknown if the NBA icon plans to retire or continue playing.
What we do know is that for the first time in his basketball life, James is NOT the most important player on his team. Luka Dončić is the Lakers’ franchise player. Even though the former Dallas Mavericks star is a poor defender, he is arguably the most gifted scorer in the league.
James has a no-trade clause in his contract. He can leave the Lakers by requesting a trade to any team of his choice.
However, since Bronny James is on the Purple and Gold and LeBron’s family loves living in Los Angeles, the odds of “The King” leaving the Lakers are very, very low.
The Lakers had a terrible December, going just 5-6. They are 20-11 on the season, which is good for fifth place in the West, but Los Angeles is 25th in the NBA in defensive rating.
