Anthony Davis ‘Would Welcome’ Remaining With Dallas Mavericks For Rest Of Season

Anthony Davis “would welcome” remaining with the Dallas Mavericks for the rest of the season, according to NBA insider Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
“As rough a ride as Davis’ first year as a Maverick has been — filled with injuries and seemingly non-stop negativity surrounding the franchise — one source close to the process insisted to me this week that the 32-year-old would welcome staying put for the rest of the season,” Stein wrote.
Davis has decided not to undergo surgery on his left hand and the Mavericks have had renewed trade talks around the 10-time All-Star. There are multiple teams interested in trading for Davis, who is expected to miss six weeks with ligament damage in his left hand.
Dallas will only trade Davis if it gets a strong return for the big man.
“The Mavericks are indeed in active trade conversations with a few teams regarding Davis, league sources say, but they continue to tell interested suitors that they will only be willing to trade him away in the next three weeks if it’s a deal they deem favorable,” Stein wrote. “They are not operating with a rush to offload Davis.”
Before he got hurt against the Utah Jazz, Davis drew trade interest from the Atlanta Hawks, Milwaukee Bucks, Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors. The future Hall of Famer is making $54.1 million this season. He’s eligible for a four-year, $275 million extension in August.
Rich Paul’s preference is to get an extension done in the offseason, but it’s unknown if Dallas will offer Davis an extension due to his age and injury history, which is why Paul wants his client traded this season.
If the Mavericks trade Davis, Paul will ask for an extension from Davis’ new team in August.
One of the best players in NBA history, Davis is averaging 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.7 blocks per game this season while shooting 50.6% from the field, 27.0% from 3 and 72.8% from the foul line. He’s played in just 20 games.
The Mavericks haven’t ruled out keeping Davis past the 2026 NBA trade deadline because there are members of the franchise interested in seeing the Chicago native play alongside Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving.
A top 75 player of all time, Davis has appeared in only 29 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. Dallas is currently in 12th place in the West.
