Anthony Davis To Speak With Washington Wizards’ Brass About Future: ‘What Is Our Plan For Winning’

DHJ Quick Take

  • Seeking Clarity: Anthony Davis plans to meet with Washington Wizards leadership to discuss the franchise’s future direction and plan moving forward.
  • Rough Season: The Wizards finished the 2025-26 season with the worst record in the NBA, securing only 17 wins.
  • Contract Details: Davis, 33, has two years left on his contract with the Wizards.

Anthony Davis told Washington Wizards reporters during his exit interview that he will speak to the team’s brass about the organization’s plan moving forward this offseason.

The Wizards won just 17 games this season. They had the worst record in the NBA.

Davis, acquired by Washington from the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline, didn’t play for the Wizards this season because of ligament damage in his left hand.

“That’s what I would like to see,” Davis said. “Like, what is our plan for winning going into next season and how. Not just like this is a plan, but how do we execute that? And based on that, we kind of see what happens.”

Davis, 33, will make $58.5 million next season. He has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.

A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He’s a 10-time All-Star and one-time NBA champion with career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game. The Chicago native has made five All-NBA teams and five All-Defensive teams.

Davis appeared in only 29 games with the Mavericks, who traded Luka Dončić to the Lakers to acquire the Kentucky product. Davis averaged 20.2 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.8 blocks per contest with Dallas.

The Wizards acquired Trae Young from the Atlanta Hawks before trading for Davis. It will be intriguing to see if Davis remains on Washington’s roster or gets traded or bought out this offseason.

If Davis stays with the Wizards, their core will be Davis, Young, Alex Sarr, Kyshawn George, Bilal Coulibaly, Tre Johnson and Bub Carrington.

“I like these young guys, man,” Davis said. “I’m not gonna lie. … I would love to see how it feels to play a game in a Wizards uniform.”
