Cooper Flagg Injury Update Before Dallas Mavericks Face Minnesota Timberwolves

The Dallas Mavericks listed Cooper Flagg as questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves due to left ankle injury management, but new pregame activity provided a clearer picture of where things stand.
Flagg was on the court during shootaround earlier Wednesday, a meaningful development as Dallas evaluates his availability closer to tipoff. The Mavericks have maintained a cautious, day-to-day approach with Flagg rather than making early determinations, especially after an unscheduled three-day break created by Sunday’s postponed game in Milwaukee.
Why Dallas Mavericks Are Proceeding Carefully
Flagg has been central to nearly everything Dallas has done this season. Through 43 games, he is averaging 18.8 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 33.8 minutes per game, starting every contest and carrying a significant two-way workload.
That usage has only grown more important as the Mavericks have played extended stretches without Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, and Danté Exum, all of whom remain out. Since a 5-15 start, Dallas has gone 14-12 despite Davis missing 12 of those games, a stretch that has reinforced the need to balance competitiveness with long-term health.
In Saturday’s 116-110 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Flagg logged 34 minutes and finished with 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, again underscoring both his importance and the physical demands placed on him.
The injury report also reflects added uncertainty elsewhere in the rotation. Klay Thompson was downgraded to questionable with left knee soreness and did not participate in shootaround, while Moussa Cissé, a G League two-way, is listed as doubtful. With several veterans already sidelined, Dallas continues to navigate availability carefully as it prepares for Minnesota.
Cooper Flagg Earns Rising Stars Nod
Flagg’s injury update comes during a week that has otherwise highlighted his progress. On Tuesday, he spoke after being named to the Castrol Rising Stars game during All-Star Weekend, his first major league-wide honor.
“It means a lot,” Flagg said. “I feel blessed. It’s kind of an outcome of the work I’ve put in. Obviously, the way things have gone, I wish they’d have gone a lot better. But everything happens for a reason.”
Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd echoed that sentiment.
“It’s well deserved with what he’s done in the first half of the season to represent himself and the Mavs in the Rising Stars game,” Kidd said.
Dallas is preparing for a Minnesota team that will have Anthony Edwards available after he missed Monday’s game. With Edwards expected to return, the Mavericks anticipate a significant defensive challenge regardless of Flagg’s final status.
A final determination on Flagg’s status is expected closer to tipoff.
