Dallas Mavericks Lose Cooper Flagg At Halftime After Injury Against Denver Nuggets

Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg was ruled out for the remainder of Wednesday night’s game against the Denver Nuggets after sustaining a left ankle sprain, the team announced at halftime.

Flagg exited late in the second quarter and did not return before the break. Dallas ruled him out for the rest of the game shortly thereafter, with no immediate update provided on the severity of the injury or whether further evaluation would be required.

Cooper Flagg Ruled Out At Halftime After Early Exit

Before being sidelined, Flagg logged 14 minutes, 49 seconds, scoring six points on 3-of-9 shooting. He went 0-for-3 from beyond the arc and did not attempt a free throw, finishing with one rebound, one assist and one block. His minus-11 plus-minus reflected the uphill battle Dallas faced while he was on the floor.

Flagg entered the night as the Mavericks’ offensive centerpiece amid a depleted roster. Coming into the game, he was averaging 19.1 points, 6.4 rebound,s and 4.3 assists in 39 games this season, production that has placed a heavy burden on the 19-year-old as Dallas has navigated extended absences across the lineup.

Injury Halts Momentum After Strong Recent Stretch

The timing of Flagg’s injury was particularly unfortunate given his recent form. He was coming off one of his most complete performances of the season Monday against Brooklyn, when he scored 27 points and added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals in a win over the Nets.

That performance reinforced Flagg’s role as both the Mavericks’ primary scorer and late-game decision-maker, making his early exit against Denver a significant setback as Dallas attempted to stay competitive without several veterans.

Dallas Mavericks Adjust With Cooper Flagg Out

With Flagg unavailable for the second half, Dallas was forced to further compress an already thin rotation. Naji Marshall carried much of the scoring load in the first half, while P.J. Washington, Daniel Gafford and Jaden Hardy were asked to absorb additional responsibility on both ends of the floor.

The injury added to a growing list for the Mavericks, who entered the night already without Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively II, and Danté Exum.

For now, the Mavericks were left to finish the night without their rookie centerpiece, awaiting clarity on an ankle injury that abruptly cut short another high-usage outing in an already demanding season.

It remains to be seen if Flagg will be available to play against the Utah Jazz on Thursday night as the Mavericks conclude a back-to-back.
