‘The Future Is Bright’: Cooper Flagg Impresses Stephen Curry In Dallas Mavericks’ Christmas Day Loss To Golden State Warriors

Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has known Dallas Mavericks rookie Cooper Flagg longer than others in the NBA.
Flagg attended Curry’s basketball camp back in the day, so Curry knew firsthand how talented Flagg was before the Warriors hosted the Mavericks on Christmas Day.
The Mavericks lost to the Warriors by a final score of 126-116 at the Chase Center, but Flagg was terrific. The Duke product put up 27 points, six rebounds and five assists in 35 minutes while shooting 13-of-21 from the field and 1-of-3 from beyond the arc.
After the game, Curry spoke about Flagg’s Christmas Day debut with NBA reporter Malika Andrews of ESPN.
“Just a true hooper,” Stephen Curry said about Cooper Flagg. “Competitor. You forget how young he is. Just his presence out there on the court. So, the future is bright. I’m glad he got this experience his first year to understand what the bright lights feel like. The league is in good hands.”
Flagg has now received high praise from Curry and Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokić in back-to-back games.
Not bad for a 19-year-old.
The Mavericks are only 12-20 on the season, but Flagg has been nothing short of sensational. The Maine native is averaging 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while shooting 49.3% from the field, 26.9% from 3 and 79.4% from the foul line.
Over his last seven games, Flagg is putting up superstar numbers. He’s averaging 26.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 5.9 assists per game.
While Mavericks fans will likely never forget about the Luka Dončić trade, at least they have a new building block in Flagg, who is arguably the best American NBA rookie since LeBron James.
Dallas is back in action on Saturday (12/27) against the lowly Sacramento Kings, who are only 7-23. Let’s see what type of performance Flagg has in store for Kings fans.
