Dallas Mavericks Arrive In New York City After Navigating Blizzard-Disrupted Travel

The Dallas Mavericks arrived in New York City on Tuesday after remaining in Indianapolis overnight due to the New York City blizzard and widespread travel disruptions across the Northeast.

Before departing, the Mavericks held individual workouts Monday at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University. With a citywide travel ban in effect in New York and major airports temporarily shut down during the height of the storm, Dallas adjusted its schedule, using the additional time in Indiana for a team dinner and some on-court work.

The team secured a viable departure window Tuesday morning as airport operations in the New York area resumed under reduced capacity.

Monday Workouts Helped Maintain Routine Amid New York City Blizzard

Monday was not a full-team practice but a structured workout day inside Hinkle Fieldhouse. Players completed individual skill work, conditioning, and treatment sessions while the organization monitored evolving travel conditions in New York.

Head coach Jason Kidd acknowledged the uncertainty following Sunday’s 134-130 win over the Indiana Pacers.

“Tomorrow’s going to be a long day. We can’t leave until the evening and there’s no guarantee,” Kidd said. “Hopefully we can get out and get to New York.”

With flights grounded Monday and airlines operating in recovery mode, the Mavericks opted against attempting a risky departure. The Monday workout provided structure and continuity before travel resumed.

Dallas Mavericks’ Arrival Comes as NYC Airports Operate on Reduced Schedules

John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and Newark Liberty International Airport reopened Tuesday after suspending or severely limiting operations during the blizzard. However, schedules remain heavily disrupted.

Approximately half of departures at JFK and LaGuardia were canceled Tuesday, while Newark reported continued delays as airlines repositioned aircraft and crews following Monday’s shutdown.

Within that limited operating window, Dallas completed its flight into the New York area, clearing the primary logistical hurdle ahead of Tuesday’s matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.

Tipoff at Barclays Center remains scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST.

After a weather-altered start to the week, the Mavericks have successfully transitioned from contingency planning back to competition as their road trip continues. Dallas will seek to build on the momentum of snapping a 10-game losing streak when facing the Nets.
