The Dallas Mavericks announced Monday the appointment of Gina Miller as the organization’s chief communications officer, reporting to Chief Executive Officer Rick Welts, effective immediately.

In the newly created role, Miller will oversee corporate communications, basketball communications, and broadcasting — a structure that expands the leadership scope previously held by Victoria Martinez, who quietly departed from the organization’s communications staff late in the offseason.

“It’s been known for several weeks that Miller was set to join the Mavericks,” a source said, noting that her official start date was contingent on the conclusion of FC Dallas’ season.

Rick Welts Praises Gina Miller’s Leadership and Vision

Welts highlighted Miller’s reputation as one of the most accomplished communications executives in professional sports, citing her ability to unify corporate strategy, media relations, and fan engagement — qualities that align with the Mavericks’ efforts to evolve into a global sports and entertainment brand.

He emphasized that Miller’s arrival comes at a pivotal time for the franchise, which continues to modernize its operations under the new ownership group led by Patrick Dumont and Miriam Adelson. With decades of media and executive experience, Miller is expected to play a central role in shaping the Mavericks’ storytelling, community presence, and overall organizational identity.

“Gina is an industry powerhouse, highly respected for her strategic leadership in North Texas and beyond,” said Welts. “We are incredibly fortunate to add her expertise to our executive team and chart the future together as our franchise grows into a premier sports and entertainment organization.”

Miller brings nearly 30 years of sports industry experience to the Mavericks. She most recently served as vice president of broadcasting, media, and communications for FC Dallas, North Texas SC, the National Soccer Hall of Fame, and Toyota Stadium.

During her tenure, she helped secure FC Dallas’ first paid local TV broadcast package, launched the club’s first-ever affiliate network across Texas, and contributed to Dallas’ successful bid to host a tournament-high nine matches and the International Broadcast Center for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

“I grew up loving this franchise and, like so many kids in Dallas, had Mavericks posters on my wall,” said Miller. “Covering this team and co-hosting Mavericks Game Night for more than a decade gave me a front-row seat to some of the most electric moments in Dallas sports history. To come full circle and now serve this organization in a leadership role is incredibly meaningful. I’m excited to help shape the next chapter of the Mavericks’ story, one that connects deeply with our fans, our city, and the global basketball community.”

A Full-Circle Moment for a Dallas Native

A third-generation Dallas native, Miller began her career as a college intern with the Houston Rockets during their 1994–95 championship season. She later built a decorated broadcasting career, anchoring and reporting in markets including Guam, Knoxville, Los Angeles, and Dallas.

Locally, she co-hosted Mavericks Game Night with Derek Harper and contributed to pre- and postgame coverage for the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Stars, and Texas Rangers. Miller also worked for the Cowboys organization from 1999 to 2003 as a reporter and producer.

Throughout her career, Miller has earned an Edward R. Murrow Award, multiple Lone Star Emmy nominations, and recognition as WISE DFW’s Heart and Soul Woman of Inspiration and a PRNews Changemaker.
