NBA scouts and coaches feel Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis isn’t looking as mobile as he normally does, according to Christian Clark of The Athletic.

Davis reported to training camp at 268 pounds, according to the roster the Mavericks released in September. That was 15 pounds heavier than what he was listed at the previous season with the Los Angeles Lakers.

“In the Dallas Mavericks’ first four games, Anthony Davis’ counting numbers were impressive, but multiple scouts and coaches from rival teams told The Athletic they felt he didn’t look as mobile as he normally does,” Clark wrote. “Then, as the Mavericks concluded their season-opening five-game homestand on Oct. 29, Davis limped off the floor in the first quarter with what the team later said was a left calf strain.”

Thus far in his Mavericks tenure, Davis has played in 14 games and missed 26. He suffered a left adductor strain in his first game with the team last season in February, which sidelined him for 18 consecutive games. This season, Davis’ calf strain has cost him three games and counting.

Dallas, of course, traded Luka Dončić to the Lakers for Davis and Max Christie last season. Dončić is averaging 40.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 9.2 assists per game for the Lakers this season, while Davis is averaging 20.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocks per contest for Dallas.

The Mavericks are tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for last place in the Western Conference standings. Dallas and New Orleans are 2-6.

A Chicago native, Davis is 32 years old. He is under contract for $54.1 million this season and $58.5 million for the 2026–27 season. The future Hall of Famer has a player option for the 2027–28 season worth $62.8 million.

Davis has played for the Pelicans, Lakers and Mavericks. He has made 10 All-Star teams, five All-NBA teams and five All-Defensive teams.
