Dallas Wings Injury Report: Six Players Out For Preseason Opener Against Indiana Fever

DHJ Quick Take: Dallas Wings Injury Updates

  • Measured Backcourt Progress: The Dallas Wings are taking a cautious approach with JJ Quinerly as she continues her recovery from major knee surgery. While Quinerly increased her on-court activity this week, the team is prioritizing her “speed ramp” toward the May 9 opener over pushing it early.
  • Veteran Stability: Lindsay Allen’s probable status is a positive for Jose Fernandez. Her veteran presence is a mechanical necessity for a Wings backcourt currently navigating several absences due to overseas commitments.
  • The Overseas Waiting Game: Core players like Arike Ogunbowale and Jessica Shepard remain sidelined as they return from overseas commitments, though Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu‘s availability provides a frontcourt option.
  • Frontcourt Depth Test: With Rayah Marshall in concussion protocol and Awak Kuier still navigating immigration procedures following her overseas season, the Wings‘ frontcourt rotation will be tested early at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Dallas Wings released their injury report Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s preseason opener at the Indiana Fever, listing Lindsay Allen as probable and ruling out six players, headlined by guard JJ Quinerly.

The report aligns with what head coach Jose Fernandez indicated following Tuesday’s practice, when he confirmed Allen and Quinerly had increased their activity but stopped short of guaranteeing either would suit up at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Lindsay Allen Probable With Right Hamstring Designation

Allen carries a probable tag with a right hamstring designation, the lone player Dallas has not formally ruled out among its limited group. The veteran point guard ramped up her work in Tuesday’s session, getting up and down the floor for the first extended stretch of camp.

“Yeah, they increased today. You saw they went up and down. We’ll see what type of time they get on Thursday and Sunday,” Fernandez said Tuesday.

Her availability would give Dallas an experienced ball handler in a backcourt rotation that already has questions to answer.

JJ Quinerly Held Out as Knee Recovery Continues

Quinerly is listed as out with a left knee designation, the same knee she had surgically repaired Oct. 3 in a procedure that included an osteochondral allograft and a meniscus repair. The injury occurred Aug. 20 at the Los Angeles Sparks and ended her rookie season early.

The West Virginia product, selected 27th overall by Dallas in the 2025 WNBA Draft, averaged 6.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in 34 games before the injury while shooting .426 from the field and .389 from 3-point range.

Quinerly took part in increased on-court activity on Tuesday and told reporters her next step is regaining her speed. With Dallas playing back-to-back preseason games Thursday and Sunday, the team appears to be building her ramp toward the second contest rather than rushing her into the opener.

Four Players Sidelined as Overseas Returns Continue

Arike Ogunbowale, Jessica Shepard, and Costanza Verona are all listed as out with a return-from-overseas designation. Awak Kuier is also out, with the team listing her status as an overseas commitment while she awaits progress on immigration procedures.

The absences come a day after Dulcy Fankam Mendjiadeu became the first of the Wings’ overseas group to take part in a practice session, joining the team Tuesday after winning a Serbian Cup championship with Crvena Zvezda.

Rayah Marshall in Concussion Protocol

Forward Rayah Marshall is also listed as out, with the team citing concussion protocol. Marshall has not participated in recent practices, and the official designation provides the first formal confirmation of her status.

Up Next

The Wings open their preseason slate Thursday against the Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse before turning around for a Sunday matchup against the Las Vegas Aces at Moody Center in Austin. The regular-season opener is set for May 9 in Indiana.
