The Dallas Wings (1–4) close out their four-game road trip on Thursday night with a matchup against the winless Chicago Sky (0–4) at Wintrust Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT, with the game airing locally on KFAA29 in Dallas-Fort Worth and streaming nationally on Prime Video.

This will be the first of two straight matchups between the teams, with Chicago heading to Arlington on Saturday for the Wings’ first home game since May 19. The Sky are coming off a disappointing 94–89 loss to the Phoenix Mercury in which they squandered a 16-point lead despite 21 points from Ariel Atkins.

Dallas enters on a high note after securing its first win of the season — and head coach Chris Koclanes’ first career WNBA victory — with a 109–87 rout of the Connecticut Sun. The Wings delivered their most complete performance of the season, setting new team highs in points (109), field goal percentage (56.1%), assists (26), steals (10), and rebounding margin (+8). It was a needed breakthrough for a group still finding its rhythm under a new coaching staff and roster core.

Where to Watch

Paige Bueckers Shines in Return to Connecticut

Rookie guard Paige Bueckers returned to the state where she starred at UConn and delivered a statement performance. She scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting while adding seven assists, five rebounds, two steals, and a block in the win over Connecticut.

“It felt great,” Bueckers said. “Just to play like that as a team—and obviously that environment is special to me—but to be able to put a full 40 minutes together and come out with a win and stay connected throughout the entire game.”

Bueckers became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 60 points and 30 assists through her first five games and is the first rookie to post at least 20 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 80% shooting in a single game.

“Just taking what the defense was giving me,” Bueckers told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “My teammates did a great job at setting screens, getting me open, creating rhythm and flow, and letting me get to my spots.”

Arike Ogunbowale Reasserts Herself

Arike Ogunbowale played a pivotal role in the second half, scoring 15 of her 19 points in the third quarter and tying her career high with six steals.

“I’ve just been trying to get used to the system, trying not to overdo it, and still share the ball,” Ogunbowale told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “But I definitely had to get back to myself — and I think I did in the second half.”

She also passed A’ja Wilson for second-most points through 200 career games with 4,083, trailing only Breanna Stewart in league history.

“It is really hard to learn a new system and play with a whole new team. It’s not like it’s a new coach with the same team — everything’s new,” she told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “This has definitely been a hard adjustment, but I’ve been giving myself grace, giving the team grace.”

Dallas Wings Rookies Provide a Lift

Tuesday’s win wasn’t just about Bueckers — it marked a breakout performance for Dallas’ rookie class. Aziaha James came off the bench and provided a major spark with nine points in nine minutes, hitting 2-of-3 from deep and converting all three of her free throws. JJ Quinerly added five points on a perfect 2-of-2 shooting effort, while Luisa Geiselsöder made her WNBA debut and knocked down her only shot attempt.

“She’s committed,” Koclanes told DallasHoopsJournal.com of James. “It felt right, and she made the most of it. The kid can score. I’m really excited for her and hope this gives her more confidence.”

Chemistry in the Dallas Wings Backcourt

Maddy Siegrist, one of the team’s few returning players, finished with 12 points and nine rebounds off the bench. She highlighted the growing chemistry with Bueckers as a reason for the team’s improved offensive flow.

“Well, it’s definitely better playing with her than against her,” Siegrist told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She’s such a great teammate. Not only is she a great basketball player, but she really makes her teammates better.”

Bueckers credited their shared Big East background and added: “We come from great programs… and have that mutual understanding on the court,” she told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

Ogunbowale added that Bueckers is already evolving into a floor general early in her adjustment process.

“She’s catching the flow of the WNBA,” Ogunbowale told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She’s a mature point guard. She’s getting us organized quicker and coming up with play calls faster.”

Floor Leadership and Film Work

Bueckers has leaned on film sessions with Koclanes to sharpen her understanding of the Wings’ system and develop as a vocal leader on the floor.

“She’s learning a new system. She’s learning it quick,” Koclanes told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “The more we talk and watch, the more she becomes an extension of our coaching staff on the floor.”

Bueckers emphasized her responsibility in setting the tone.

“I can do a better job of getting our team organized just in transition and what we want our flow to look like,” she told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “We’re all learning each other’s tendencies—where we like the ball, where to go after a cut.”

Veteran Impact and Injury Watch

Veteran guard Tyasha Harris, who exited Tuesday’s game with a left knee injury and is listed as questionable for Thursday, has been a steadying presence for Bueckers on and off the court.

“She knows the game… and she has a calming presence about her,” Bueckers told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She’s been a calming voice for our team.”

Koclanes added, “She gives us a second voice out there with Paige — a really experienced leader,” he told DallasHoopsJournal.com.

What’s at Stake in Chicago

Chicago remains winless after Tuesday’s collapse in Phoenix and will look to regroup quickly in front of a home crowd. For Dallas, the opportunity is clear: build on momentum, tighten up defensively, and continue developing rhythm as a restructured roster takes shape.

With a short turnaround and a rematch on deck Saturday, Thursday’s game could help define the Wings’ early-season narrative.
