Exclusive: Naji Marshall Reflects on 'Amazing' Return from Illness in Mavericks’ Win Over Pelicans

After missing four consecutive games due to illness, Naji Marshall returned to the Dallas Mavericks’ lineup on Wednesday night, helping his team secure a thrilling 137-136 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans.
Though Marshall was limited to 15 minutes of action—well below his regular workload of 24.5 minutes per game—Marshall embraced being back on the floor and contributing to the win.
“Pretty good, man. Back out there with the guys from New Orleans. Got a W, so it was amazing,” Marshall told DallasHoopsJournal.com after the game.
Naji Marshall is Happy to Be Back
Marshall finished with five points and two assists, playing within his role and providing valuable minutes off the bench. His presence adds depth to a Mavericks team still dealing with multiple injuries, especially as deploying P.J. Washington as a small ball center becomes more frequently utilized.
“I’m feeling great, baby,” Marshall told DallasHoopsJournal.com when asked how it felt to be back in action.
The Mavericks have relied on Marshall’s versatility throughout the season, with the 26-year-old averaging 10.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 35 games. His ability to defend multiple positions, space the floor, and make plays for others will be critical as Dallas looks to maintain momentum on their five-game road trip.
Marshall expressed confidence in ramping back up to his usual minutes when asked if he expects to build on this performance in the coming games on this road trip.
“Hopefully to be back, about two or three games full of swing of things,” Marshall told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “But I felt great, though.”
The Mavericks continue their five-game road trip with a matchup against the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.
