Boston Celtics Willing To Trade Jaylen Brown For ‘Big Man’

DHJ Quick Take: Celtics Open To Trading Brown For Elite Big

  • Frontcourt Upgrade Desired: The Boston Celtics are willing to move star small forward Jaylen Brown in a trade, specifically targeting an elite “big man” to reshape their frontcourt identity.
  • Missed Giannis Pursuit: This strategy was showcased when Boston offered Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, a blockbuster pursuit that fell through when the two-time MVP was dealt to the Miami Heat.
  • Rising Internal Tensions: Having previously been upset when his name surfaced in trade rumors back in 2022, insiders suggest that Brown could be completely seething over these latest front-office maneuvers.

The Boston Celtics are willing to trade small forward Jaylen Brown for a “big man,” according to Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated.

Boston offered Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was traded to the Miami Heat.

Brown was upset when his name came up in trade talks in 2022. It would be unsurprising if he were seething now, per Mannix.

One of the top two-way players in the NBA, Brown will make $57.1 million next season. He is under contract through the 2028-29 season and is eligible for a two-year, $142 million extension in July. Brown signed a gigantic five-year, $285 million extension with the Celtics in 2023.

The 2024 Finals MVP, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game for the Celtics this past season. The five-time All-Star put up 25.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game against the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round of the 2026 playoffs, but Boston lost to Philadelphia in seven games.

Brown holds career averages of 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game in the regular season and 19.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in the playoffs. The California product was the third overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft.

Many NBA insiders believe Brown wants his “own team” instead of sharing the spotlight with Jayson Tatum and wouldn’t mind getting traded this offseason. Brown has been linked to the Atlanta Hawks, Houston Rockets, New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers in trade rumors.

It will be fascinating to see if Brown gets traded this offseason. The 29-year-old doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
