In a Tuesday interview in Greece with Sport24 managing editor Harris Stavrou, Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo said “for sure” when Stavrou asked him if he believes the Bucks have a chance to compete during the 2025-26 NBA season.

Milwaukee general manager Jon Horst was very busy this offseason. He waived and stretched Damian Lillard, signed Myles Turner, Gary Harris, Amir Coffey, Cole Anthony and Thanasis Antetokounmpo and re-signed Bobby PortisKevin Porter Jr.Gary Trent Jr.Taurean Prince and Jericho Sims.

“Yeah, we have a chance,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “For sure.”

The Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games. Indiana also beat Milwaukee in the first round of the 2024 playoffs in six games.

Giannis Antetokounmpo guided the Bucks to the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns in six games. Since then, Milwaukee has won only one playoff series.

“To get the best out of the team and to get the best out of me, I have to be a creator,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said. “I have to feel like I can create. If you look at the last two months of the team, when I had the green light, if I have the ball in my hands and I have that green light to create, I don’t always have to execute, but I have to feel like I’m creating. I have to feel the ball and like I’m part of the team. Not just be a play finisher. Not just go score 30. Get the ball in the pick-and-roll, get the ball in the post and score it.

“(Creating) is my real self coming out, because that’s (what) I did at Filathlitikos, and that’s what I always wanted to do. There have been times in my career when I’ve done it, but most of the time, I’ve been the finisher. In the last two months when I was more of a creator of the team, I had a good time. I think the team did very well during that time.”

One of the greatest players in NBA history, Giannis Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. The Greek Freak has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks with the Bucks.

Giannis Antetokounmpo finished third in MVP voting last season. He averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks while shooting 60.1% from the field and made the All-NBA First Team.
