Golden State Warriors Offered Jonathan Kuminga $75.2 Million Deal, Kuminga Asked for $82 Million

The Golden State Warriors offered restricted NBA free agent Jonathan Kuminga a three-year, $75.2 million deal last week, according to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of ESPN.
The third year of the Warriors’ offer is a team option.
Kuminga doesn’t want a team option in his next contract, which is why he hasn’t re-signed with the Warriors.
“Their unwillingness to budge on the team option in those specific two offers is a major part of the holdup,” Charania and Slater wrote. “Kuminga, gripping to the first lever of control he has had in his young career, is resistant to the idea of it, sources said. The only non-team option offer the Warriors have made to Kuminga is three years and $54 million fully guaranteed, sources said, an average of $18 million per season.”
Kuminga wants a player option instead of a team option, but the Warriors have not offered the swingman that. Kuminga’s agent, Aaron Turner, presented a three-year, $82 million offer, including a player option, to Golden State, which was rejected.
Kuminga’s qualifying offer is worth $7.9 million. If he signs it, the forward would have a no-trade clause for the 2025-26 season and enter unrestricted free agency next offseason.
Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 0.8 steals and 0.4 blocks for Golden State last season in 47 games, shooting 45.4% from the field, 30.5% from beyond the arc and 66.8% from the free-throw line. The Warriors lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the conference semifinals in five games.
A one-time champion, Kuminga was the seventh overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He enters next season with career averages of 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.4 blocks with the Warriors.
Kuminga has until October 1 to sign his qualifying offer for next season.
