According to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line, the Indiana Pacers are interested in trading for Dallas Mavericks big man Daniel Gafford.

The Pacers need a center after losing Myles Turner to the Milwaukee Bucks in the offseason.

“Turner’s old team in Indiana is expected to shop the in-season trade market for big men and likewise believed to hold interest in Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford as a potential pick-and-roll lob threat before Tyrese Haliburton‘s return from an Achilles tear next season,” Fischer wrote.

Gafford is averaging 8.9 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season. He signed an extension with the Mavericks in the offseason, but Gafford is widely regarded as the most tradeable Maverick, sources told DallasHoopsJournal.

A talented lob threat, Gafford is making $14.4 million this season. The 27-year-old Arkansas product is shooting 61.0% from the field and 79.1% from the free-throw line for the Mavericks, who could overhaul the roster after firing Nico Harrison as general manager.

Gafford was the 38th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Chicago Bulls. He has career averages of 9.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game with the Bulls, Washington Wizards and Mavericks.

The Pacers, who lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2025 NBA Finals in seven games, are 6-18 on the season. They are in 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings.

Meanwhile, the Mavericks are 9-16. They are in 11th place in the Western Conference standings.

On Monday, December 15, 82 players signed in the offseason will become trade-eligible, which means 90% of the league can be moved.
