‘I Love This Place’: Jalen Brunson Wants To Spend Rest Of Career With New York Knicks

NBA star Jalen Brunson took a massive pay cut with the New York Knicks in the summer of 2024. The guard signed a four-year, $156 million extension, leaving over $113 million on the table.

Brunson would have been eligible to extend with the Knicks for five years and up to $269 million if he waited until after the 2024-25 season, but the talented scorer and passer wanted to help New York create financial flexibility.

When Brunson becomes eligible for his next contract, the lefty hopes the Knicks “do right” by him. The three-time All-Star told Stefan Bondy of the New York Post that he hopes to spend the “rest of my career” with New York.

“I would love to be here for the rest of my career,” Jalen Brunson said. “I love this place. They’ve welcomed me with open arms. They’ve been behind my back since Day 1. I built a life here. And I love the city, I love the fans, I love everything this place has offered me, on and off the court. So I just love it here. And I’d love to stay.”

Brunson is currently the Knicks’ third-highest-paid player behind Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby. The Villanova product has been with New York since 2022 after spending the first four years of his career with the Dallas Mavericks.

For the Knicks this season, Brunson is averaging 26.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game while shooting 47.1% from the field, 37.1% from beyond the arc and 84.7% from the free-throw line. New York is in third place in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Knicks made the conference finals last season for the first time since 2000. They lost to the Indiana Pacers in six games and fired Tom Thibodeau as head coach.

Former Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown replaced Thibodeau.

It will be fascinating to see how far the Knicks go in the 2026 playoffs with Brunson leading the way.
