There is optimism that Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Dončić has not suffered a major left hamstring injury, according to NBA reporter Dave McMenamin of ESPN.
Dončić got hurt against the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday (2/5) and left the game without returning.
The Lakers came back to beat the 76ers at home without Dončić. Austin Reaves scored 35 points off the bench, while LeBron James had 17 points and 10 assists.
Los Angeles is in fourth place in the Western Conference standings with a record of 31-19 under second-year head coach JJ Redick.
Dončić is averaging 32.8 points, 7.8 rebounds and 8.6 assists per game on the season. The future Hall of Famer is shooting 47.3% from the field, 34.5% from beyond the arc and 78.1% from the free-throw line.
The Lakers acquired Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks last season. Dončić signed a three-year extension with the Purple and Gold last offseason. He’s expected to spend the rest of his career with Los Angeles.
Dončić was selected to the All-Star team this season. It’s unknown if he will play in the game after hurting his hamstring.
The Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games despite having homecourt advantage. Dončić is still searching to win his first NBA championship. He guided the Mavericks to the NBA Finals in 2024, a series the Boston Celtics won in five games.
