The Los Angeles Lakers have interest in trading for Jonathan Kuminga, who has demanded a trade from the Golden State Warriors, according to The Athletic.

“League and team sources confirmed a report that the Lakers have some interest in Kuminga, though it remains unclear if talks will unfold. The Warriors, the sources said, are aware of the intrigue and waiting to see how that situation evolves,” The Athletic wrote.

NBA insider Kevin O’Connor of Yahoo Sports is also reporting that the Lakers are looking to trade Jarred Vanderbilt and Gabe Vincent for a wing.

Kuminga has appeared in 18 games this season. He’s averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 43.1% from the field, 32.0% from beyond the arc and 74.1% from the free-throw line. The forward is not in the Warriors’ rotation at the moment.

A one-time NBA champion, Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal with the Warriors to end his restricted free agency in the offseason. The second year of the deal is a team option.

The Lakers, Dallas Mavericks and Sacramento Kings are interested in trading for Kuminga, who holds career averages of 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Los Angeles is in fifth place in the Western Conference standings, while Golden State is in eighth place.

The Lakers, of course, made a blockbuster trade last season, acquiring Luka Dončić from the Mavericks for Anthony Davis and Max Christie. The Warriors also made a big trade, acquiring Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat.

LeBron James becomes an unrestricted free agent after this season for the first time since 2018. It’s unknown if the NBA legend, who is 41 years old, will retire or continue playing.

The Lakers and Warriors are in championship droughts. Los Angeles hasn’t won it all since 2020, while Golden State hasn’t won the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy since 2022.
