The Los Angeles Lakers are interested in Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer of The Stein Line.

The Lakers are looking to acquire a 3-and-D wing.

“One other team to at least mention here: The Lakers. The purple-and-gold’s known preference at this deadline is to acquire a true 3-and-D wing with size if possible to provide some point-of-attack resistance on the perimeter as well as some shooting, but it must be said the Lakers, according to sources, did call Golden State about Kuminga during the sides’ summer standoff in restricted free agency,” Fischer wrote.

“I’m told that the Lakers have likewise continued to monitor Kuminga’s situation while casting a wide net to try to find help on a very limited wing market.”

The Warriors are expected to trade Kuminga, whose trade restriction ends on January 15.

Kuminga signed a two-year, $48.5 million deal with Golden State to end his restricted free agency last offseason. The second year of the deal, which is a team option, is designed for Kuminga’s next team to rip up and construct a new contract next offseason.

Kuminga believes his growth has been stunted by Steve Kerr and the Warriors, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Kerr and Kuminga don’t have a good relationship, sources said.

The 23-year-old Kuminga has been out of the Warriors’ rotation a few times this season. He’s appeared in 18 games, averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game while shooting 43.1% from the field, 32.0% from beyond the arc and 74.1% from the free-throw line.

Kuminga has career averages of 12.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. He won the 2022 title with Golden State.

The Lakers are in fifth place in the Western Conference standings, while the Warriors are in eighth place.
