Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made NBA history last season by playing with his son, Bronny James.

LeBron became the first father in basketball history to play with or against his son.

The leading scorer in NBA history, LeBron has one year left on his contract with the Lakers. The basketball icon becomes an unrestricted free agent next offseason for the first time since 2018.

LeBron’s second son, Bryce James, is a freshman at Arizona. He can declare for the 2026 NBA Draft, but LeBron said at media day on Monday that he’s not waiting on Bryce.

It will be fascinating to see if LeBron retires after this season or chooses to play in 2026-27. The Akron native averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.6 blocks for the Lakers last season in 70 games. He finished sixth in MVP voting and made the All-NBA Second Team.

LeBron joined the Lakers in 2018. He led the franchise to the 2020 championship against the Miami Heat at the Walt Disney World bubble.

A four-time champion, LeBron has played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (twice), Heat and Lakers. He enters this season with career averages of 27.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.7 blocks. The four-time Finals MVP is the only player in NBA history to rank top five all-time in points and assists.

LAL acquired Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks last season. For the first time in his legendary career, LeBron is not the most important player on his team.

LeBron turns 41 in December. He’s the oldest active player in the NBA.
