NBA superstar Luka Dončić of the Los Angeles Lakers opened up about his body transformation during an interview with Jordan Rose of Complex.

Dončić has lost a ton of weight this offseason.

“I mean, just trying new things,” Luka Dončić said. “Like I said, me and my team put a plan together. So we just try some new things. The toughest part, I don’t know, a little bit of everything, but at the end of the day, I love basketball. So I just wanted to play basketball.”

Dončić lost weight this summer by going on a gluten-free, low-sugar diet, according to Men’s Health. The 26-year-old point-forward also does intermittent fasting.

One of the best players in the NBA, Dončić has lost 30 pounds since last summer, a league source told DallasHoopsJournal.

“Man, he looks incredible,” an NBA scout told DallasHoopsJournal after watching Dončić play in a EuroBasket game recently. “He’s quicker and more explosive. He’s getting by people more easily. I think he’s on a mission, man. I think he’s gonna win MVP and the scoring title next season. He wants to get revenge on Dallas for basically fat-shaming him.”

The Dallas Mavericks traded Dončić last season because general manager Nico Harrison had issues with the five-time All-Star’s weight, diet, work ethic and conditioning. Dončić dealt with a serious calf injury last season, preventing him from getting into the elite shape he’s in right now.

Dončić played in 28 games with the Lakers after the Mavericks shockingly traded him in February. He averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.4 blocks with the purple and gold.

Los Angeles lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games, but Dončić played well offensively, averaging 30.2 points and 5.8 assists despite being “out of shape.”

Dončić signed a three-year, $165 million extension with the Lakers on August 2. He recruited Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart to Los Angeles this offseason.

A future Hall of Famer, Dončić enters next season with career averages of 28.6 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.5 blocks with the Mavericks and Lakers. He’s already third in NBA history in points per game.
