“We’ve Formed a Strong Working Relationship:” Luka Dončić’s Manager Issues Statement on Where Things Stand With Los Angeles Lakers
Luka Dončić‘s manager, Lara Beth Seager, told NBA insiders Ramona Shelburne and Brian Windhorst of ESPN that she and Doncic “have formed a strong working relationship” with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Los Angeles acquired Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks last season. Dončić, 26, is the new franchise player for the Lakers, replacing NBA icon LeBron James.
“The Lakers leadership team has been incredibly welcoming and supportive of Luka since we arrived in L.A.,” Seager told ESPN. “We’ve spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other over the last few months, and we’ve formed a strong working relationship. Championships are won when you work together. We all share that same goal.”
Dončić can sign a contract extension with the Lakers on August 2 for as much as four years and $229 million. The superstar point-forward can also agree to a two-year extension to get him to 10 years of service in the summer of 2028, when he could sign a five-year max contract at 35% of the salary cap to maximize his earnings.
One of the best players in the NBA, Dončić averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists with the Lakers last season after the Mavericks traded him in February. The five-time All-Star put up 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game in the Minnesota Timberwolves series.
The Lakers lost to the Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in five games despite having Dončić and James. There have been whispers that James could request a trade this offseason since Los Angeles chose not to extend his contract and the front office hasn’t made any drastic improvements to the roster.
All signs point toward Dončić being on the Lakers for the rest of his NBA career. Meanwhile, the same can’t be said about James, who turns 41 in December.
