Luka Dončić, P.J. Washington Headline Mavericks’ Injury Report for Upcoming Jazz Matchup
Luka Dončić and P.J. Washington headline the Dallas Mavericks’ injury report ahead of their matchup with the Utah Jazz.

SALT LAKE CITY — Before the Dallas Mavericks take on the Utah Jazz on Thursday night, the team released a new injury report that includes Luka Dončić and P.J. Washington. However, Dereck Lively II, who was questionable entering Tuesday’s loss against the Golden State Warriors, is no longer listed.
As Dončić deals with a left groin strain, his status has come down to a game-time decision before his two prior performances, despite being listed as probable before 41 minutes against the Warriors. He is once again on the injury report as probable. On the other hand, Washington remains doubtful with a right knee sprain.

A more substantial update about Washington’s status could come before the end of the week, considering he participated in 3-on-3 at Monday’s practice at Chase Center, followed by getting in some 2-on-2 before Tuesday’s loss. This tends to be a positive signal that a player is building momentum in the return-to-competition process.
Washington hasn’t played since last Monday, when he recorded 8 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 blocks in the Mavericks’ loss against the Indiana Pacers. Dallas has sorely missed his perimeter size, length, and general defensive talent to handle top matchups.
Naji Marshall has filled in for Washington in the starting lineup, averaging 10.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 27.3 minutes per game over these four games. However, the team must deploy smaller lineup combinations on the perimeter without having Washington and Marshall available to play.
Another injury note: Maxi Kleber was cleared to play on Sunday against the Denver Nuggets, but the coaching staff elected not to play him. The same happened against the Warriors.
