‘She’s Just Relentless’: Dallas Wings to Activate Maddy Siegrist vs. Indiana Fever, but Questionable to Play

Dallas Wings forward Maddy Siegrist is listed as questionable for Friday’s game against the Indiana Fever after fully participating in shootaround at the American Airlines Center. She has been out since mid-June with an anterolateral tibial plateau fracture in her right knee, missing 17 straight games.

A source tells DallasHoopsJournal.com that although Siegrist will be officially available, whether she will actually play will be determined closer to tipoff as the medical staff evaluates her readiness. The reason for the uncertainty is caused by Thursday’s practice cancellation leaving her without the opportunity to gain 5-on-5 reps as the team had hoped for. Currently, conditioning remains the focus as she ramps back up.

Maddy Siegrist Brings Energy, Versatility to Dallas Wings’ Frontcourt

Despite the uncertain playing status, Wings head coach Chris Koclanes said the team is eager to reintegrate Siegrist into a system that has seen improved spacing and ball movement in recent weeks.

“Toughness, effort, a motor, and energy up and down the floor,” Koclanes told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She’s also another good floor spacer and a really good off-ball cutter. I’m excited to get her in the mix with how the court’s been looking recently. I think we’ve cleaned up some spacing, so it’ll be great to integrate her into that.”

Siegrist averaged 9.4 points and 5.2 rebounds in 11 games before the injury, ranking among league leaders in offensive rebounds (2.5) and second-chance points (3.5). Her tenacity around the rim remains a focal point for Dallas.

“She’s just relentless. Relentless,” Koclanes told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “That gives us some crash presence back as well. We’re excited about that portion of her game, too.”

Before the injury, Siegrist spent time at both forward positions. Koclanes said that versatility will remain central to her role once she’s fully reintegrated.

“She has good size on the wing, and you can do a bunch of switching with her at the 3, 4, or 5,” Koclanes told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She can space the floor and cut, and I like thinking about her playing with a facilitator like Hailey in different actions off the ball. Also, playing with Lee and Lou—those guys really space the floor too. So, we’ll definitely experiment with her at the three and the four.”

Dallas Wings Preparing to Reinforce Depth with Maddy Siegrist’s Return

For her part, Siegrist said the biggest challenge was the slow build back from a lower-body injury.

“You can’t go from zero to a hundred, even though I probably drove the trainers crazy trying to do that,” Siegrist told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “It’s just about working your way back. I’m just looking forward to playing basketball again.”

For her part, Siegrist said the biggest challenge was the slow build back from a lower-body injury, balancing her competitive instincts with the patience required to follow a methodical rehab process. While eager to accelerate her return, she recognized the importance of trusting the plan the Wings’ medical staff laid out and not rushing into game action before her body was fully ready.

“I feel like in the last five to ten games, there’s been a real shift in ball movement and more spacing,” Siegrist told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “In the five-out system, you can play almost any position. I want to be able to cut, offensive rebound, be versatile on defense, and run in transition. Someone’s gotta run out there with JJ, so hopefully I can give her someone else.”

Siegrist also noted how her rehab gave her a wider view of team dynamics and schemes, something she believes will benefit her upon return.

“You’re more locked into what we’re doing as a team,” Siegrist said. “When you see a teammate miss a coverage, you’re like, ‘We just went over that.’ When you’re playing, you might be too busy guarding the corner to even see it. So, it’s definitely given me a broader view of everything that’s happening on the court.”

Tipoff between the Wings and Fever is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT at American Airlines Center. The game will air nationally on ION.
