Dallas Mavericks Interested In Jonathan Kuminga, Reached Out To Golden State Warriors About Anthony Davis Trade

The Dallas Mavericks are interested in Jonathan Kuminga and reached out to the Golden State Warriors about an Anthony Davis trade, according to NBA insider Sam Amick of The Athletic.
However, the Warriors trading for Davis is “unlikely” since they don’t want to trade Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green.
The Warriors have held interest in Davis for years, but they are not viewed as an imminent trade threat due to feasibility challenges under the current CBA landscape, NBA sources told Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal. Any realistic deal would require the inclusion of either Butler or Green in some form.
Sources also told Afseth that the Atlanta Hawks remain linked to Davis, though questions surrounding Trae Young’s long-term outlook and Davis’ contract extension timeline limit an outlook for a potential trade.
Davis is eligible for a four-year, $275 million maximum extension in August. The 2020 NBA champion is making $54.1 million this season. He’ll make $58.5 million next season and has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
Sources told Afseth that Davis will seek a contract extension from the Mavericks in the offseason if he doesn’t get traded this season. If Dallas does trade Davis, the future Hall of Famer and his agent — Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group — will pursue an extension with the team he gets traded to.
Davis has appeared in only 16 games this season. He’s averaging 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played in just 25 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. Davis is averaging 20.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.8 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.
The Mavericks are exploring the trade markets for Davis, Daniel Gafford, Klay Thompson and D’Angelo Russell, sources told Afseth. All four players have been in trade rumors ever since Nico Harrison was fired as general manager.
Davis got hurt on Christmas Day against the Warriors and could miss multiple games. He hasn’t been able to stay healthy since getting traded to the Mavericks.
While Dallas is listening to trade offers for Davis, the front office will not trade the Chicago native unless they get a “strong” return, sources told Afseth.
A 10-time All-Star, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He holds career averages of 24.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
Kuminga has appeared in 18 games this season. He’s averaging 11.8 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
The Warriors are expected to trade Kuminga once his trade restriction ends after January 14.
