NBA Insider Would Not Rule Out Miami Heat Pursuing Dallas Mavericks’ Anthony Davis

NBA insider Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report would not rule out the Miami Heat pursuing a trade for Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis.
If the Heat can’t acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks, they could pivot to Davis, who played with Bam Adebayo in the Paris Olympics.
“Miami, I don’t believe, would really make an all-out effort for Anthony Davis right now until they know for sure that Giannis is not going to be for the taking,” Fischer said. “But that pairing of AD and Bam certainly worked in the Olympics and I would not rule that out as a scenario moving forward.”
The Heat are 14-12 on the season. They are in ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings. They will not pursue Davis until they are certain that they cannot acquire Antetokounmpo.
The Mavericks, who are 10-17 and in 12th place in the Western Conference standings, are not interested in shedding Davis’ contract. They want a strong return for AD. The Chicago native is making $54.1 million this season. He’ll make $58.5 million next season and has a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season.
Davis has appeared in just 20 games with the Mavericks since the blockbuster Luka Dončić trade last season. The big man is averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 1.9 blocks per game in a Dallas uniform.
The Mavericks are expected to work with Davis’ camp as they decide whether to pursue an in-season trade, sources told DallasHoopsJournal. Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group is Davis’ agent.
A Kentucky product, Davis has played in only 11 games this season because of a left calf injury. He’s averaging 20.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.6 blocks per game.
The few teams interested in trading for Davis hope he loses weight, sources said. Teams think Davis needs to lose weight so he can be the mobile threat he usually is.
A top 75 player of all time, Davis has played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Los Angeles Lakers and Mavericks. He has career averages of 24.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
