The Miami Heat could regain an All-Star scorer on Monday night, but they’ll be missing the player who has carried their offense through the season’s first month.

Tyler Herro is listed as questionable to make his season debut when the Heat open a four-game homestand against the Dallas Mavericks, signaling that last year’s leading scorer is finally on the cusp of returning.

Herro underwent surgery in September to address posterior impingement syndrome in his left ankle and foot. He averaged a career-best 23.9 points last season while playing 77 games and winning the NBA’s 3-point contest.

Miami will provide another update closer to tipoff, but Herro’s participation in recent ramp-up work has positioned him for a potential return.

Norman Powell, Andrew Wiggins, and Nikola Jović Out for the Miami Heat

While Herro edges closer to the court, the Heat will be without Norman Powell — their leading scorer this season at 25.4 points per game. Powell underwent an MRI on Monday that confirmed a strained left groin and has been ruled out against Dallas. He scored 32 points Sunday in Philadelphia before the injury forced a further medical evaluation.

Andrew Wiggins (strained left hip flexor) and Nikola Jović (right hip impingement) are also out, the team confirmed.

Powell’s absence removes a major weapon from a Miami offense that leads the NBA in scoring at 124.9 points per game. The Heat have relied heavily on his dynamic downhill game and hot shooting through 14 contests.

Kel’el Ware and Bam Adebayo Lead the Miami Heat

The Heat return to Miami riding a four-game winning streak, most recently powering past Philadelphia 127-117 behind a commanding 58-47 rebounding advantage. Kel’el Ware (20 points, 16 rebounds) and Bam Adebayo (18 points, 13 rebounds) overwhelmed the Sixers in the paint, giving Miami separation in the second half.

“With our rebounding, Bam and Kel’el were monsters on the glass, each one of them in their own way,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said after Sunday’s win. “He’s gaining confidence. I don’t want to put a ceiling on him.”

Dallas enters Miami after a 102-96 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, a game defined by the Mavericks surrendering 23 offensive rebounds and getting out-rebounded 61-41 overall.

“You can’t win in this league if you give up that many rebounds,” Mavericks coach Jason Kidd said. “We have to be physical, and we weren’t.”

Starting guard Brandon Williams echoed the concern, noting the guards failed to support the bigs on the glass.

“We just got to be more physical,” he said. “Us guards have to come back and help the bigs.”

P.J. Washington left Saturday’s game with a lower-back injury and is not on the injury report.

Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks Renew a Long, High-Stakes Rivalry

The matchup adds another chapter to one of the NBA’s more unique interconference histories. Monday will mark the 78th regular-season meeting between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks, with Miami holding a slim 39-38 advantage. The teams split last year’s series, including an overtime thriller in Miami and a tightly contested five-point Mavericks win in Dallas.

Beyond the regular season, the rivalry remains defined by their two NBA Finals clashes — Miami’s 2006 championship and Dallas’ 2011 title — both decided in six games. Each series became a defining moment for its respective superstar core, and the head-to-head history still carries weight among both fan bases.

This meeting arrives at an important juncture for each side. The Heat are riding a four-game winning streak and boast the league’s top-scoring offense, now potentially bolstered by Tyler Herro’s return. The Mavericks, meanwhile, are trying to stabilize after injuries and a rough stretch on the glass, entering a difficult road matchup where rebounding, physicality, and guard play will be under the microscope.

With Miami aiming to extend its early momentum and Dallas searching for a corrective spark, Monday’s game offers both teams a chance to reset trajectories against a familiar opponent.
