Miami Heat’s Tyler Herro Named Trade Target For Dallas Mavericks

Miami Heat shooting guard Tyler Herro has been named a trade target for the Dallas Mavericks, who are off to a rough start to the 2025-26 NBA season.
Dallas is just 2-6. Jason Kidd’s group is tied with the New Orleans Pelicans for last place in the Western Conference standings.
NBA analyst Dan Favale of Bleacher Report believes Herro would be a good fit on the Mavericks next to rookie Cooper Flagg.
“Dallas doesn’t have to worry about Herro’s potential redundancies alongside a healthy Kyrie Irving,” Favale wrote. “He is better suited as the secondary creator and has placed in the 75th percentile or better of spot-up three-point efficiency through four of his six seasons, per BBall Index.
“With all of that said, Herro has improved enough to run the show for long pockets of time. He has long been one of the more underrated from-scratch shot-makers, and he leveled up as a facilitator amid a skeleton crew of orchestrators in Miami last year.
“Covering up for Herro defensively will be no sweat. Flagg, Anthony Davis and the Mavs’ overall size are equipped to handle it. Cobbling together the right package gets a little bit tricky. Dallas is within $1.3 million of the second apron while Miami sits inside $2 million of the tax. A third team will be required—as will the Mavs’ willingness to dangle some combination of Max Christie, the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2029 first-round pick and their own 2032 first-rounder.”
Tyler Herro will make $31 million this season and $33 million next season in the final year of his deal. He’s currently out after undergoing surgery to alleviate posterior impingement syndrome in his left ankle.
For the Heat last season, Herro averaged 23.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 0.2 blocks in 77 games. He made his first All-Star team and shot 47.2% from the field, 37.5% from beyond the arc and 87.8% from the free-throw line.
Herro has career averages of 19.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.2 blocks with the Heat. He won the 2021-22 Sixth Man of the Year Award. Miami selected Herro with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.
Herro doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract, so he can’t stop the Heat from trading him if that’s a route Miami wants to take.
