The Cleveland Cavaliers may get LeBron James and Bronny James this summer.
That’s at least what Emmett Golden of ESPN Cleveland is hearing.
The prevailing thought in NBA circles is that LeBron will sign with the Cavaliers this summer. The sports legend has played for the franchise twice (2003-10, 2014-18) and is the greatest player to wear a Cleveland uniform.
LeBron and Bronny were born and raised in Akron, Ohio. Playing at home would be comfortable for them.
The Cavaliers would have to trade for Bronny, as he’s currently under contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bronny will make $2.3 million next season.
LeBron, of course, began his NBA career with the Cavaliers in 2003. It would undoubtedly be an extraordinary story to see him end his legendary career in Cleveland with his son next to him.
The 41-year-old LeBron has been linked to the Philadelphia 76ers, Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors. All those teams believe LeBron will sign with Cleveland, sources told Dallas Hoops Journal.
Cleveland made the Eastern Conference Finals last season for the first time since 2018. The New York Knicks swept the Cavaliers, who want to pair LeBron with Donovan Mitchell, James Harden, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen, sources said.
Harden is expected to re-sign with Cleveland once LeBron picks his next team, sources said.
LeBron is arguably the best player in NBA history. He’s a four-time MVP, four-time champion and four-time Finals MVP. The basketball savant is the all-time leader in points, field goals, minutes and games.
Cleveland assistant general manager Brandon Weems was with LeBron last weekend in Ohio. Weems is one of LeBron’s closest friends.
“Let me talk to you about Brandon Weems,” James’ agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group, said on his podcast. “Brandon Weems is basically LeBron’s brother. Now, he worked his own way [up], nobody gave him anything. He’s earned to be in the front office of the Cavs. But that is a big feather in the cap [for Cleveland], because of Brandon Weems.”
LeBron holds career averages of 26.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game in the regular season and 28.2 points, 8.9 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game in the playoffs with the Cavaliers, Heat and Lakers. He guided LAL to the 2020 championship against Miami at the Walt Disney World bubble.
However, LeBron hasn’t been back to the NBA Finals since.
A 22-time All-Star, LeBron played in 60 regular-season games last season for the Lakers. He averaged 20.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game. The forward then put up 23.2 points, 6.7 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game in the 2026 playoffs in 10 games against the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder.
LeBron remains an elite performer despite being the oldest active player in the NBA. That’s why so many teams are trying to sign him.
Until LeBron signs on the dotted line with the Cavaliers, we can’t pencil him and Bronny back in Cleveland. However, the vibes are certainly pointing toward the James family coming home this summer.
