Moussa Cissé Talks Offseason Goals At Mavs Academy Hoop Camp

DHJ Quick Take: Moussa Cissé Talks Offseason Goals at Mavs Academy Hoop Camp

Dallas Mavericks center Moussa Cissé made an appearance at Friday’s Mavs Academy Hoop Camp, working with campers before detailing his offseason priorities. He pointed to free throws and decision-making as his focus and said he’s rooting for Senegal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

  • What did Cissé do at the camp? Competed in drills alongside campers and spoke with reporters about his development.
  • What is he working on this offseason? His free throws and decision-making heading into his second NBA season.
  • Why does it matter? His 46.9% mark from the line ranked among the lowest in the league, and progress there could help cement his frontcourt role.
  • What about the World Cup? With Guinea eliminated, Cissé is backing Senegal, close to home and his wife’s country, and hopes to catch their match in New York.

DALLAS — Dallas Mavericks center Moussa Cissé made a special appearance at Friday’s Mavs Academy Hoop Camp.

After spending time competing in drills alongside the campers and giving a lot of high-fives, Cissé spent a few minutes talking to reporters.

“I love kids and being around them, asking me different questions,” Cissé said. “I feel like I’m serving them, doing something for them. They don’t get to see an NBA player all the time, so it’s fun.”

Moussa Cissé’s Offseason Goals

Cissé spoke about his experience at the camp before pivoting to his offseason, namely, how he’s working to improve heading into his second year in the league.

“My main concern going into this summer [was working on] my free throws,” Cissé said. “My free throws and then my decision-making.”

The charity stripe was an area for improvement for the rookie big man in the 2025-26 season, with Cissé connecting on just 38 of his 81 attempts throughout the year. His 46.9% mark from the free-throw line was the fourth-lowest of players to appear in at least 38 contests.

Rooting for Senegal in the 2026 FIFA World Cup

Cissé, who grew up playing soccer, won’t see his home country, Guinea, in this year’s FIFA World Cup after it was knocked out of the qualifying stage. That said, he’ll still be keeping tabs on the competition.

“I’m rooting for Senegal,” Cissé said. “Really, because it’s close to home and my wife is Senegalese. I know Senegal is playing in Charlotte, I think, and then in New York, so I’m trying to catch the one in New York.”
