An NBA trade idea sending Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics to the Detroit Pistons has been created.

NBA writer Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report created the following trade idea between the Celtics and Pistons:

Detroit Pistons get: Jaylen Brown

Boston Celtics get: Ron Holland II, Jaden Ivey, Tobias Harris and a 2027 first-round pick (protected 1-4)

“The Celtics get $7.7 million in 2025-26 salary savings—not enough to get them out of the tax this season, but every little bit helps. When Harris’ $26.6 million comes off the books after the season, Boston will be free and clear,” Hughes wrote.

“Meanwhile, the Pistons add Brown to a core of Cade Cunningham, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren. That group should be able to better last season’s No. 6 seed in the East while moving up Detroit’s timeline a bit. With Cunningham already an All-NBA player, the time to add high-end (and high-cost) talent is now.”

The Celtics, who won the 2024 championship against the Dallas Mavericks, won’t be a title contender next season since Jayson Tatum won’t play. The All-Star is recovering from a torn right Achilles tendon.

Since it’s unknown what type of player Tatum will be once he returns from his injury, some people believe Boston should retool and trade Brown.

A four-time All-Star, Brown is one of the best players in the NBA. He appeared in 63 games for the Celtics last season, averaging 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.3 blocks while shooting 46.3% from the field, 32.4% from beyond the arc and 76.4% from the free-throw line.

The 2024 Finals MVP, Brown will make $53.1 million next season. He has spent his entire career with Boston, compiling averages of 19.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.4 blocks.

Detroit made the playoffs last season for the first time since 2019, losing to the New York Knicks in the first round in six games. The Pistons would be championship contenders with Brown in the fold next to Cunningham, Thompson and Duren.
